Major Taylor Cycling Club Los Angeles mourns the loss of our beloved friend and clubmate Donna Orange. Donna died of injuries sustained when she was struck by a car over the past weekend. Donna was kind, generous and unassuming. Very few, if any of us in MTLA knew of her extensive career as an endurance cyclist or world renowned psychoanalyst and author. Lately she couldn't make it out to our club rides but thanks to Zoom she attended every quarterly club meeting. We love you, Donna and we will miss you. God speed.
Hello Friends,
Twice a year we assist the Hands of Mercy (HoM) charity to build houses for the poor in Mexico. This is an opportunity to lend a hand on a day of service outside of our cycling club.
On Saturday May 4th, construction of the walls will take place at Rolling Hill Covenant Church parking lot, location provided below. All are welcome including families and teens willing to use a hammer, help pick up nails, observe or just cheer everyone on! All you need is a hammer, closed toe shoes, sunscreen and a heart to serve.
Location:
Rolling Hills Covenant Church
2222 Palos Verdes Dr. N.
Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274
Then on Friday May 24th the partially built home is towed to Ensenada Mexico where on Saturday May 25th the house is assembled at the family’s build site. And then the team returns to LA on Sunday May 26th.
Whether at the church, to pre-fab the house, or to join the trip to Mexico, you're guaranteed a great feeling in your heart and a very happy and grateful less privileged family in Mexico.
ALL YOU NEED IS A GIVING HEART, AND A PASSPORT IF YOU ARE GOING TO MEXICO.
For the Pre-fab event on May 4th, I'll be out of town but Steve Bayne will be the lead for MTLA and I'll forward any additional information that I get. And as always, HoM will provide lunch at the Pre-Fab.
So please DM on Messenger or text Lyndon @ 213-925-0004 prior to May 3rd, so I can provide an estimate participant count.
Important Dates and Info:
Precut on Friday May 3rd: time TBD (we need new volunteers to lead the prefab, please contact Raul @ 310-808-8911 or Brian Schurman @ 310-701-1952.

Hey MTLA:
Thank you all, your family, and your friends for the generous donation to the Dorsey High School track team. Our MTLA Charity Bike Ride: Pedal to the Podium event was a huge success. Our coordinator, Wendy Melchor, set a fundraising goal of $2,000.00 based on conversations with the team’s track coach. We are very proud to announce that we raised $3,400.00. WOW! We did that and some.
Also, thanks to everyone that showed up for the actual event ride. We looked amazing in our black kits; yes we did.
This Wednesday, March 20, 2024 members of the board will present a check to the Dorsey track team. The presentation event was literally finalized this morning. The presentation will take place in the school’s principal’s office, so the number of MTLA attendees is limited to available board members only. In addition to the check presentation, we will discuss starting a cycling club at the school. Yep that’s right; we have the opportunity to leave a MTLA legacy of cycling at the school.
Thanks again everyone. Your donations and participation in this event was greatly appreciated.
Stay tuned for the next one.
Glen
